FOUR THINGS TO FIGURE OUT BEFORE EDITING YOUR PERSONAL PICTURES IN LIGHTROOM

First of all I would love to put the following out there

I am not a photographer

I do not own a camera yet

I took no tutorials on photo editing before understanding how to use Lightroom

I haven’t perfected my skills with Lightroom

So as we all know there is a post on how I edit my pictures back when I used so many applications to edit my pictures  but right I am down to two applications that always give me the perfection I want.

Lightroom on Mobile is practically the best thing that ever happened to my Instagram if that makes any sense .

Lightroom is straightforward and very easy to use if you practice continuously.

I started using Lightroom in 2016 and then I just did the basics and got really excited when I would see the changes on my pictures just after reducing or increasing exposure.

Lightroom gives pictures a very different feel from what every other editing application would give in my opinion.

I use Lightroom most of the time for my pictures taken outdoors and overtime I have realized to get the best out of Lightroom I needed to figure out the following

WHAT I WANT THE EDITED PICTURE TO LOOK LIKE: Lightroom gives you the opportunity to do so much that it sometimes gets really  intense in a good way .So in order to to end up not messing up your picture you need to have an idea of what you expect at the end of the whole process. That way you don’t end of trying to use all the tools on the sliders because every move has its own effect on your pictures .

THE FEATURES OF THAT PHOTO: If it is an outdoor photo it is expected to have lots of colors which includes the sun, trees, buildings etc and how their presence would affect each other or even a person’s skin color or hair.

For instance if you are editing a picture of a girl in a blue dress and she has hair you need to be careful because you might just be turning her blue or green without realizing.

TEMPERATURE AND TINT

To me these two tools could make or mar your pictures if you go a little too high or too low.So study what these tools are capable of doing.

WHAT AREAS TO POP

This comes in when you are editing pictures that have a huge portion of your skin exposed.

Here you need to pay special attention to your brightness, highlight, saturation and vibrance. If they still do not provide that glow you want you proceed to the color slide and click on a round colorful ring which will give you an extended option of what specific colors to brighten, change or darken.

And for the skin there is a brown ring which indicates the skin color and it isn’t just for dark skinned people.
